It’s Time To Learn Happiness From Children.

It’s Time To Learn Happiness From Children.

Children can teach you many powerful lessons to be a happier person.

Let me share ten of these lessons with you.

1. Happiness Is A Little Child – Choose To Be Happy.

Happiness is a choice and a right that our Creator has given to you.

Make the right choice and take the right action from now.

2. Happiness Is A Little Child – Live As Happily As You Want.

Every morning when children wake up, they may have to choose between being happy or being unhappy.

They do not choose to be unhappy and carry unhappiness in their mind and behavior.

Children just move on to live as happily as they can.

Happiness is a matter of choice and change and not a matter of chance or circumstances.

3. Happiness Is A Little Child – Be Happy With Everything Within And Around You.

Children’s happiness has nothing to do with their feelings.

It has nothing to do with wealth and other possessions.

Children generate happiness with any and everything in their lives.

They can be happy in any situation and environment.

4. Happiness Is A Little Child – Be Happy: No Reasons Needed.

If you ask children why they are happy, they may not be able to give you a reason.

Everything inside and around them can make them happy.

If you ask the average adult the same question, they will probably tell you many reasons why they are not happy.

Everything inside and around them can make them unhappy.

Children’s happiness is not dependent on any conditions or circumstances.

For many adults, they are happy “if only…,” or “because…”

Children can teach you that you can be happy. Period.

5. Happiness Is A Little Child – Stop Planting Seeds Of Unhappiness.

What happened to some of us between childhood and adulthood?

Some people choose to plant seeds of negativity in the gardens of their minds.

They grow fruits of worries, resentment, hatred, vengeance, and all kinds of negative emotions.

They choose to become producers of unhappiness in their mind.

They improve their productivity for unhappiness by thinking more unhappy thoughts.

Tragically, they allow unhappiness to become a part of their thought patterns.

They put on “unhappy sunglasses.” Therefore, everything looks unhappy to them.

They communicate words that attract only unhappiness such as “Why is my life so hard?” “I don’t think it will be a good day today.”

To make matters worse, they keep imagining negative scenarios and visualizing negative outcomes.

Soon, they will become addicted to the chemicals in their brains, chemicals that generate unhappy emotions.

Unhappiness can, unfortunately, attract more unhappiness.

To be happy, nip unhappiness at its bud.

Children do not chase after unhappiness or allow it to slip into the mind.

Even if unhappiness gets in, it does not take roots.

It is quickly repelled from the precious mind.

6. Happiness Is A Little Child – Focus On Being Happy And Pursue Things That Make You Happy.

Children focus on happiness.

It is a way of life.

Children wake up and look forward to life.

They are curious, playful, and adventurous.

They pursue anything and everything that makes them happy.

They know many of the sources of happiness and they return back to them again and again.

They have no room for any negative emotion.

They do not worry over small matters.

There are no matters that are big enough for them to worry about.

Children also know that worrying will not solve anything.

In other words, there is nothing to worry about.

Be happy.

7. Happiness Is A Little Child – Live simply.

Children live simply.

They have no negative desires or unrealistic expectations.

They do not carry unnecessary baggage with them.

They do not allow any burden or blockage to weigh them down.

Children can play with the simplest of things and learn how to have fun with them.

They use all the energy to focus on important areas that will give them happiness, excitement, and fulfillment.

8. Happiness Is A Little Child – Have Good Friends.

Children play wholeheartedly with their friends.

They don’t look purely after their own interests.

They learn to look after each other.

They share their happiness and concerns with good friends and lift each other up.

Together with these friends, they look for new experiences, moments of fun, and opportunities for laughter.

Along the way, they learn and grow.

They continue to look forward to a better day.

9. Happiness Is A Little Child – Be Grateful.

Children can be grateful for the simplest of things.

They are also thankful for the smallest gesture.

If they are not spoilt by adults, they are not greedy.

They do not pander to have more and more things.

Children are contented with what they have.

They are in awe and wonder about the beauty around them and the goodness of life.

These wonderful gifts are everywhere.

Children appreciate them.

They can open their minds and eyes and learn to be grateful and thankful for everything in their life.

When they do that, they will realize that being grateful is a source of happiness.

10. Happiness Is A Little Child – Spread Happiness.

Children are inclined to spread happiness most of the time.

They can do it with anything they have and under any circumstances.

Happiness will tend to attract more happiness.

Therefore, make people happy and spread happiness everywhere you go.

Happiness is reliving the virtues of childhood.

It is living out the childlikeness of happiness.

If you want to be happy – be like a child again.

Question: How can you be happy?

It’s Time To Stand Up For Your Honor.

It’s Time To Stand Up For Your Honor.

I can still hear those words in my mind.

Words that went straight to my heart and it brought chills of fear to every part of my being.

Those words will haunt me to the last day of my life.

Zhen (not her real name) said those words to me over the phone.

I have no qualms that she meant every word she said, and she also made sure I heard her loud and clear.

At that point, she was in Hangzhou and I was in Shanghai.

Zhen was one of my company’s distributors then.

She was an up-and-coming leader in our distribution chain in China.

Tall, slim, good-looking, very articulate and outspoken, Zhen had these and other qualities that would help her stand out in any meeting.

That was the impression I had when I first met her.

Many who had business dealings with her shared a similar impression.

As part of our business system, she was encouraged to attend a series of training.

That was how I first met Zhen when I taught in one of the classes.

The objective of the programme was to mentor distributors on how to conduct business presentations in public.

As part of the training, they had to learn how to create an impactful introduction for their presentations.

I told them, “If you don’t win the audience’s hearts and minds right from the beginning, you may not have their ears right to the end of your presentation.

“The audience might not support and buy into your message, let alone patronize your products and services.”

To ensure the students cultivate the right skills, they had to practice presenting the introductory part of a speech to the class as well as to our guests.

When it was Zhen’s turn, she stood up confidently at the center of the stage.

She had a commanding presence even as she scanned the room and attempted to connect with each and every one.

She looked into every pair of eyes as if she was sublimely crawling her way through their eyes and into their souls.

Finally, she spoke, and her words literally hit our hearts like an emotional tsunami.

Zhen said, “I was once a prostitute.”

After she spoke those words, there was an electrifying silence, a silence that spoke louder than words.

Subsequently, Zhen not only earned her rights to our listening ears, she kept us spellbound with her life story.

It was an inspirational story of how she literally fell into a deep pit in her life.

As part of an underground network in her town, she went through many struggles and battles to stay alive.

What impressed me most was the fact that she was a fighter.

She never backed down from a challenge, and she managed to find her place in the dark shadows of the main street.

With the same can-do and will-do spirit, she fought hard to leave the red light district and establish herself in the business world.

Zhen committed everything she had into the business and was doing well at the beginning.

Unfortunately, a very bad experience marred her fiercely determined quest for success.

She was cheated by her master distributor and the ensuing disappointment and resentment quickly spiraled to depths of hatred.

The experience upset her to a point where she had almost lost her senses.

Her temper was flaring and negative emotions were eating away into her heart.

She became bitter and was looking for scapegoats to blame for her problems.

Tragically, Zhen thought that our company was involved in engineering her bad experiences.

That was why she made the call to us and threatened every key leader in our management team.

Even though she had gone straight, there was no doubt in our minds that she was probably still in touch with the underworld.

Without listening to our full explanation, she started to voice a stream of profanities and curses at us.

She was thirsting for blood and more specifically, my blood ( notwithstanding, my blood was high in cholesterol).

I can still recall two of my colleagues sitting beside me, trying to pacify her in a teleconference.

Beads of perspiration were forming on their foreheads and they were gripping the edge of a table.

She was screaming into the phone, “Don’t ever think of doing business here. Never even step foot on my country again.

“If I ever meet you, I will make sure you die a painful death”.

She had repeated her desire for my life quite a few times during the teleconversation.

A long time ago, I have learned that business profit is not as important as upholding the dignity and value of a human being.

I seek to be at peace with people and if, at all possible, I want to value add to their lives and inspire them to success.

I pressed on to calm her and find a resolution.

Guess what I finally did?

My response might surprise or even shock you.

I tried very hard to clarify that we had nothing to do with her issues.

At one point when she repeated her threat to my life, I told her, “I will catch the next flight to your city and present myself to you.

“All I ask for is that you give me a chance to explain to you face to face.”

To say that she was surprised by my response was an understatement.

It stunned her into total silence for a while.

Then, Zhen repeated her threat, “How dare you even think of stepping foot into my territory.

“Perhaps you’re not getting it.

Let me say it again.

“I. WILL. KILL. YOU!”

I repeated my offer to meet her face to face a few times.

Finally, my words sank into her heart.

It may not sound like the right thing to do but at that point in time, it was the most appropriate action for the situation.

I needed to let her know I was sincere and was prepared to prove my innocence.

In my study of communication, I realized very often it is not what you say but how you say what you say that matters.

When I offered to meet her, safety or security was not the uppermost in my mind.

Protecting myself could be planned for at a later stage.

What was more important was the fact that my honor was at stake.

Honour is what gives every human a sense of pride and dignity.

Without pride and dignity, there will not be any true meaning, passion, and joy in living.

Honour is an essence of life.

It has to be defended at all costs.

For the sake of defending my honor, I was prepared to risk my life.

Make a trip to the unknown and walk into an unpredictable future.

As a child, I grew up in a tough neighborhood and had to earn my keep as an honest hawker at the defunct Sungei Road Flea Market.

In the days of old, Sungei Road Flea Market was sometimes known as the Thieves Market.

At a young age, I decided never to bow or bend to wealth, might, and force.

Never to run away from challenges, especially if they stood in my way of achieving a worthwhile dream.

I may take time off to reorganize myself but I will return and do everything possible to resolve the challenges.

As I study the lives of great leaders, one common denominator stood out in my mind.

The leaders who shaped their worlds and created new futures were defined by their indomitable fighting spirit.

As much as they preferred to pick their battles, at the same time, they were operationally prepared to fight against all odds to reach their desired destinations.

They knew full well that if they did not fight for a good cause, they might fall for anything and live for nothing.

When they fought for a good cause, they live out the essence of life.

On the other hand, when they fight for nothing, they might end up as “living dead” – who were merely not buried.

Therefore, quitting was never an option, nor ever been granted a space in their minds.

They lived by the saying, “The battle is never over as long as you don’t quit. When you quit, the battle is over.”

There would always be a way to overcome or go around any challenge.

The leaders who never quit would eventually lead their people to the promised land.

Along with their journeys, one of the greatest battles was the battle between themselves.

They constantly waged a war to direct and control themselves.

They learned to transform themselves from what they were to become, to what they should be, in order to be a great leader.

These leaders suffered many defeats.

They went through more than their fair share of traumas, pains, and brokenness.

However, they chose to capitalize on these challenges to further strengthen their fighting spirit.

They chose to grow bigger than their problems and fight more wisely to achieve a final victory.

Back to my story, it took us a while to pacify Zhen.

She must have sensed my integrity and felt my intention to achieve a win-win outcome.

In the end, we came to an amicable settlement with her.

Sadly, Zhen decided to give up the business and when we parted ways, she was still reeling from hatred and bitterness.

Deep in my heart, I prayed that the fighting spirit that got her off the street would help her rise up from the pits again and soar to the stars in her dream.

As a company, we removed the master distributor.

To grow the business, we fought many more battles to set our house in order.

As I reflect on this episode, one key lesson is that the journey to success is not just about the final victory.

It is also about the way you fight your way to the final victory.

Valentine’s Day is a day that has been associated with romantic love.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is a day that has been associated with romantic love.

However, there is no reason why we should not ignite and promote more love in our community and country.

Love is one of the most powerful forces in life and a key ingredient to make our world a better home.

Yet, we have barely scratched the surface in tapping this awesome force.

Many people have never truly loved or loved enough.

They consciously or unconsciously held themselves back from loving others and loving themselves.

As a result, they can never live a full life. They also cannot give their best to their community.

In an affluent society, people can become overly-focused on acquiring more material wealth.

It can have negative outcomes for themselves and the people around them.

We need to reignite love because it can heal emotional wounds in life and nourish body, soul, and spirit.

It helps us to be at peace with ourselves and at the same time, it spurs us to improve our destiny and be a blessing to humanity and the environment.

The paradoxical truth is that the more we extend our love to others, the more love we will have.

At the same time, we will become better at sharing the blessings of love with others.

The worst heart disease for anybody is not to have a heart for people.

Historically, we went from an agrarian age to the industrial age.

From the industrial age, we went into the information age.

It’s about time, we move into an Age of Love.

Valentine Day should just be a day of love.

Valentine Day should just be a day of love.

Love is a part of every person’s birth right.

Love is a gift for everyone to value, foster, and enjoy.

No one can and should be denied love – unless he or she decides otherwise.

To the Greeks, there are many different types of love.

Eros or love between a man and a woman is only one of the types of love.

And Eros is not necessarily the most important love.

Agape love or love from our Creator to us should be the most vital and all-encompassing love.

Therefore,

You and God = complete.

You have no lack and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and every day of your life because you make them wonderful.

Have fun!

It’s Time To Re-Craft Your Story.

It’s Time To Re-Craft Your Story.

Life is but a series of stories.

You have lived through some of the stories.

If you do not accept the stories in your life and have not come to terms with them, peace will find it hard pressed to rest upon you.

It is also hard to have major breakthroughs if you cannot find meaning and purpose in these stories.

Besides these life stories, there will be other stories floating in your heart.

The stories you hold close to your heart will shape the ultimate story – your life.

You will never be the hero in your life if you do not start by being the hero in the stories within your heart.

The stories you craft can help you live beyond the horizon of possibilities.

They will take you to another world, a better life.

If you are not happy with your current story, you can work with our Creator to change the story.

You can choose to close this chapter and start a new one.

And also end this story and start a completely new story.

It’s never too late.

You can still live out the best part of your life story.

In the evening of your life, there will be lots of time to reflect on your story.

You will re-live your story in your mind.

Share your story in one way or another with your loved ones and friends.

I hope there will be joy in reminiscing about the past.

It will give you a sense of peace and flood you with good dreams.

When you move on from this world to a better world, you will leave behind your story.

That matters more than anything else you will leave behind.

I pray that your story will be a good story.

A story worth telling – one that will inspire others to craft their stories.

So, what’s your story?

Life is FUNtastic!

It’s Time To Stop Comparing Yourself With Others.

It’s Time To Stop Comparing Yourself With Others.

Living in a commercialized world, you’ll be constantly bombarded with advertisements and promotions to compare yourself with others.

They drive you to either catch up with others or be better than others.

To do that, you have to collect more and more stuff that can at best give you temporary happiness.

Then, you may have to look out for the next commercialized illusion.

When you fall into the social comparison trap, you’ll realize that you’ll never be satisfied or contented.

You’ll always have the unfavorable comparison because there’ll be people who are more successful, wealthier, and more fortunate than you.

Social comparison can cause many negative outcomes in your life.

The more you compare yourself with others, the more you will attract negative emotions into your life.

These emotions potentially include envy, insecurity, jealousy, frustration, and resentment.

The social comparison may even cause you to lower your self-esteem and self-worth.

Make you feel vulnerable and threatened, and increase your level of anxiety, stress, and fear.

As you continue to compare yourself with others, soon you may not have a grip on who you are and who you should be.

A sense of guilt and shame may set in and you may not have peace of mind.

Comparing yourself with others may also make you less willing to help others.

Your happiness level will also decrease over time.

There’s no point in comparing yourself with others.

Break the vicious cycle of social comparison now.

From the words of Desiderata, “If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.”

Our Creator has designed all of us to be different.

There’s no apple to apple comparison between any two persons.

You are uniquely you and only you can experience and achieve what you can experience and achieve in life.

When you learn to accept and love yourself, you’ll be in a better position to love others and become an asset and a net-contributor to their lives.

Be clear that true friends are not attracted to you because of your position, power, and possession.

If they are, these are not the kind of friends you want in your life.

When you stop comparing and competing with others, you’ll attract a better quality of friends.

And you can better connect, collaborate and co-create solutions with your friends to achieve better results.

Happy people do not compare themselves with others and they are not bothered by how they compare with others.

They live the best of their own lives and are not negatively influenced by others.

They adopt a healthy way to judge and feel about themselves.

In addition, happy people see the positive sides of others.

They have healthy regards for others and wish them well.

They are concerned about other people’s failures and are happy to encourage and support them to succeed in life.

Therefore, love yourself and aim to optimize the use of your potential. Put on your best self and be the best you.

Seek to not only remove social comparison but to also live your life for others and to serve others.

In adopting such an attitude, it will propel you to do better with your life.

Go4It!

Life is FUNtastic!

It’s Time To Love Trees and Plants.

It’s Time To Love Trees and Plants.

I love all kinds of trees and plants.

When I pass them, I can’t help savoring their beauty.

They leave me in awe with every twirl of a branch, and rustle of a leaf.

I imagine them smiling at me, playing a mesmerizing symphony for me and wishing me a beautiful journey.

When I’m in a flow, I can be transported by every note and by every stanza to somewhere deep in my soul.

Trees and plants have been used as part of metaphors to teach us how to develop our character and values system, and how to live our lives effectively.

And used to communicate important principles to help us live a more purposeful and fulfilling life.

There are more lessons trapped in every part of the plant kingdom, ready to be uncovered by us.

However, you need to listen with all your senses, feel with your heart, and draw wisdom from the deep recesses of your mind.

For example, the plant kingdom can teach you how to be “rooted” in good values, “nurture” yourself properly, and “bloom” where you are “planted”.

Trees and plants absorb carbon dioxide and give out life-giving oxygen.

In the same way, we should take in the negatives and transform them into something positive for the world around us.

Trees and plants share the same air, sunlight, and water.

They have the rights to stay on the planet as much as we do.

Right from the beginning of time,

God had said, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you, it shall be for meat’ (Genesis 1: 29).

When we deliberately hurt a plant or tree, we damage the lungs of the earth, a purifier of the air that keeps us alive.

Our loss is not just the loss of shade and shelter, food and herbs, and other wonderful gifts.

We may also delete the knowledge that they carry, the knowledge that may extend and enhance our existence and connect us to our higher being.

When we destroy them irresponsibly, they scream in silence. They cry not just for themselves but also for all of us.

If trees, plants, and flowers can speak, they will beg us not to detach ourselves from a vital part of the ecosystem.

Humanity is just a part of the ecosystem.

They will say to us, “Don’t cut yourself from one of the roots and connections of your family tree.”

Our forefathers planted the trees and plants and nurtured them for us.

Then they passed the baton of looking after the garden to us.

We are but custodians and stewards of the trees and plants around us.

We look after them for our future generations.

When we drop the baton, we may not only have only disappointed our forefathers, we have also betrayed them by putting to an end the good that they have done.

We have acted against our children and our children’s children.

We have robbed them of the green blessing, without which their world will be a darker and dimmer place.

When we plant a tree, we leave more than a tree behind.

We plant hope and inspiration and leave a wonderful legacy of working towards a better world.

Go4It!
